stage 02 — the method
Product and Brand Photography in Los Angeles
People, product and food, shot here.
A photograph made separately from the identity it serves has to be reconciled with it afterwards. Made alongside it, the lighting, the crop and the palette are part of the same decision — which is why the images on a site and the images on a shelf can look like the same brand.
what this covers
- Product and still life
- Food photography
- People and portraits
- Photography art-directed to an existing identity
questions
- Why shoot in-house rather than commission it?
- Because the shot is a design decision. Photography commissioned separately gets art-directed around the identity; shot here, it is directed against it.
- Can you shoot for an identity you did not design?
- Yes. Art direction to an existing system is a common and expected case.
- Does the photography get retouched here too?
- Yes — stage 03 is next in the method, and it happens in the studio — the same people on it from the shoot into retouching.
